SOCIAL GOLD:

MONUMENTS & MEMORIAL

An open call mail art zine and online event in response to monuments and memorial.

OPEN CALL MAIL ART

UPDATE: DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS EXTENDED TO 30th APRIL 2021

We openly invite you to send us your own mail art responding to the theme ‘monuments & memorial.’ to be published in our digital zine – SOCIAL GOLD: MONUMENTS & MEMORIAL

Your postcard could be…

a statement, a drawing, some text, a collage, a doodle, a rant, an instruction, or a photo.

It may provide a reflection, a provocation, a political statement, it could be about something personal to you, about someone or something that deserves a memorial, perhaps the postcard itself is a memorial…

We welcome all (not just ‘artists’) and encourage your own interpretations of the brief. We have put together some interesting examples which may help you along your way, these can be found here

Format

We recommend a ‘postcard’ size for your submission (A6 paper size – or – quarter of an A4 page – or – physical dimensions: 148mm x 105mm). Submissions can be visual or word based.

Your mail art can be made by hand or digitally. We ask that digital submissions are in either JPEG, PNG or PDF format, and are no larger than 5MB.

How will your submission be used?

Mail art submissions will be published in our digital zine, SOCIAL GOLD: MONUMENTS & MEMORIAL, by Social Art Network (Sheffield). The finished zine will be digitally published (in pdf format), made available for free download via our website (www.socialartnetwork.org).

We endeavour to include at least 1 submission from all contributors to our zine. Multiple postcards or submissions outside of this format will be considered, however they may be edited or omitted to meet the format of the zine.

In the interest of free expression and protecting identities, submissions will be published anonymously by default, unless explicitly stated alongside your submission. If you would like any details – such as your name, a short sentence – to be published alongside the submission please state this alongside your submission.

Your submission will be used solely by SAN UK.

Submission must align with our Safer Spaces Policy, we reserve the right to omit submissions which do not meet these standards. Our safer spaces policy can be found at www.socialartnetwork.org/resources.

Deadline for submissions: 30th April 2021

For inclusion in our zine, please make your submissions no later than 30th April 2021. (Note: we have extend the deadline from 31st March 2021 due to popular demand, and to tie in with other Monuments & Memorial activities)
